10 Picks from my recent visit to Pondicherry.
1) Sunday haat on Nehru road has plenty of nick nacks to pick, you can get
a whole new wardrobe in less than 1000k.
2) Rendezvous, The continental food joint serving great food, keeping in mind the foreign tourists (even a typical egg curry has measured quanitiy of salt) the food combines very well with jazz and blues they play in the semi-open sitout.
3) Plenty of glass facade retail outlets,it was amuzing to see Sri Krishna sweets shop resemble a Benetton!! I bought a Suibokuga painted bowl from one of the curio stores.
4) The cycle culture, very european, it adds to the uncluttered experience the city brings.
5) The buildings and the architecture, brings out the old world charm, the white hues of theses buildings makes one cooler in the hot sun, also the typical South Indian houses looks very inviting.
6) Gentle and generous public, a wide variety too, not to be found in most indian cities.
7) The sea, adds another dimension to the city. Auro beach which is used by the public for swimming and recreation is known for spotting Dolphins.
8) Cobbled stretch of road near the Aurobindo Ashram again brings a
European speel to the city.
9) Cross cultural influences like i saw a Indo-Vietnamese goods store.
10) Finally a walk across the Goubet Avenue with the ocean by the side, make
Pondicherry a perfect place to unwind.
