This decorative pot sits pretty on my kitchen top. I rescued this branch of cherry blossom plucked by kids, the blossom survived at least 3-4 days more than it would have.
I Recently picked up a book on Chinese ink paintings, bamboo
being a favorite subject with the artist. The characteristic style is almost identical across different artist as they apply the technique like a formula! The painting done with a single brush stroke without any sketching. The ink is hand grinded till this date and even the brush is hand made.
Another notable style of this painting is signature of the artist in the form of a seal which appear on the paintings.
I have tried to work on the technique but with my own set of colour and brushes.
The other popular subjects are Chrysanthemum and Plum blossom which is the national flower of China.
The painting are done on fine Chinese silk, hand made paper,
China and wood carvings. Modern day popularity has made them
available as prints on everything including shower curtains!
Sometimes old Chinese poems are incorporated along with the paintings in typical Chinese calligraphic style adding a new dimension to the whole affair.

A Flute at Evening
The dewdrops cling
to the green bamboos
like pearls.
The wind stirs lazily
in the lotuses,
and their pale red petals
flutter to the earth.
As the night creeps on the apace,
The twinkling glowworms
light my path,
and faintly, from the tower
in the east,
Calls a bamboo flute.
